The PKC returned from the Summer break last night with West Wales Karting hosting Round 6 of our 2017 Championship. Another record turnout saw a total of 22 drivers take to the track where in the heavyweight category, James Williams (Swansea) cruised to a dominant victory with three straight wins. Behind James, Jess Holmes (Haverfordwest) staked her claim to the Ladies Cup with another strong indoor performance and narrowly outscoring the reigning Champion Michael Lloyd Davies(Cefneithin). Current standings leader Rob Maynard (Carmarthen) had a difficult night but maintains a healthy points margin. In the lightweight category all 9 drivers in attendance were placed on track together, leading to some fantastic driving and maneuvers. The night looked set to be a crucial event in the title hunt between the two championship favourites; Adam Jones (Tenby) and Sam Joseph (Swansea). Adam drew first blood with pole in qualifying and a victory in race 1 with Sam taking victories in races 2 and 3. Heading into race 4 Sam was on pole but fell to p3 after the start with Stuart Davis (Milford Haven) charging to the front ahead of Adam. With Sam under pressure from 4th place Graeme Cobb, a win for Adam would've clawed back some valuable points from Sam. Stuart drove a brilliant defensive race despite Adam looking like the quicker driver and with 2 laps to go Adam made his move but couldn't quite pull it off resulting in a coming together allowing Stuart to take the flag with Sam and Graeme finishing behind with Adam in 4th. Adam now heads into the final round 9 points adrift from Sam setting us up for a tense title showdown. Elsewhere in the evening, a congratulations goes out to John Mason (Johnston) who picked up the Masters award and Jess Holmes for taking the Ladies award. James Williams was the best Rookie of the event. A handful of drivers stayed on for the Fastest Lap Challenge which saw the track being tackled in the reverse layout! A strong time by Stuart Davis secured him the win with Sam Joseph's lead in the overall table cut to just 0.163s from James Williams. As always, a big thank you to the staff at West Wales Karting for looking after us throughout the evening. All eyes now fall on the Season Finale Round 7, that takes place at Carew Karting on Sunday October 1st at 3:30pm.
