The second round of the 2013 Pembrokeshire Karting Championship continued the seasons trend by attracting a high number of competitors, with each one vying for victory in an action packed event.
As the afternoon faded away, the track presented the competitors with perfect conditions to produce quick lap times, which was proven with nine different drivers winning during the heat stage of the event. Each competitor was closely matched, however during the semi final stages of the round, the usual suspects began to show their form to claim their places in the final, with fresh challengers establishing themselves as contenders such as Owen Howells and Brian Newton. In the final, after coming third in the previous meeting, reigning champion Sam Joseph was back to his best with a dominant win from pole position and set a new track record in the process. Kieran Davies maintained his consistent form by finishing second and becoming a strong contender for the title, whilst rookie Brian Newton demonstrated that age is no barrier by steering his kart to third. Jason Cole fell just short of the podium despite strong performances during the day. Owen Howells fought hard with Dan Thomas and Steven Roderick to grab a strong finish for their debuts with the three finishing fifth to seventh respectively. Jake Roberts rounded off the final by finishing eighth. Sams' win secured his place at the top of both the Main Championship Standings and the Smith & Jones Electrical Fastest Lap Challenge. Brian Newton claimed top spot in the Business Finance Wales Rookie of the Year Standings. Liam Hunter remains in the lead of the Folly Farm Heavyweight Standings, but shares the spot with Richard Cowl, with quickest Heavyweight, Richard Francis in third position. Round 3 takes place Saturday July 20th. Anyone aged 16 or over can take part. For more details please visit www.pembrokeshirekarting.co.uk
