Sam Joseph (Swansea) accelerated to the top of the standings after a strong performance at the opening round of the 2014 Pembrokeshire Karting Championship. Sam was forced to make full use of his talents to claim a victory in the final over the very competitive Adam Jones (New Hedges).

With the forecast promising rain, drivers were keen to gain as much of an advantage as possible early on in the event. Dan Thomas (Templeton) looked to be Sam’s biggest threat by winning two of his heats until a backmarker spun in front of him in the semi-final allowing other drivers to seize their opportunity and overtake. Dan subsequently failed to qualify for the A-final but was able to claim victory in the B-final.

Adam Jones initially looked like the favourite to win the round until a mechanical problem forced him to finish last in one of his heats. Despite the setback Adam was able to claim enough points to allow him to land a place in the A-final where his abilities were just shy of an on-form Sam leaving him taking second.

Elsewhere Richard Francis (Cross hands) began his Heavyweight title defence in great fashion by securing third in the event and putting him top of the Heavyweight standings. Jack Allen (Carmarthen) spent the Winter in training, which really paid off as his performance ensured he tops the Rookie of the Year standings. With very little karting experience, Michael Roderick (Swansea) set the fastest lap of the event.

With another five rounds to go, everyone still has a chance to win the VIP factory tour of a leading Formula 1 team in November. Open to everyone aged 16 or over, no experience is necessary to race in the Championship, with many different categories available.
