Round 6 - 2018

The PKC sprung back into action today after the Summer break. The series reconvened at Carew Karting for Round 6 of the Championship.

Rain threatened to play a role in the event but cleared before the start time much to the disappointment of the competitors!

Low turnout in the Heavyweight division saw the three drivers race with the Lightweights. Title favourite Michael Lloyd Davies (Carmarthen) was frequently throwing himself into the mix and even claimed a race win. His performance allowed him to stand on top of the podium ahead of Andrew Cook (Clydach) and Andrew Martin (Haverfordwest).

In the Lightweight category, reigning Champion Sam Joseph (Swansea) extended his lead in the standings with a strong performance despite having to fight through the grid from each race and finished ahead of Joshua Partis (Milford Haven) who again couldn't be faulted on his consistent and smooth driving. Rookie driver Eirian Joyner (Pencader) again impressed on his debut year with a great drive to third.

The Intermediate battle was as exciting as ever as James Williams (Swansea) returned to the grid after his drop round but was unable to secure a race win whereas main title rival Ashley Hutchings (Milford Haven) needed to score big to keep his hopes of the title alive. He started well but like Williams was unable to claim a win. The real star of the event this time out was Matthew Morgan (Pembroke) who claimed two wins with Trev McCullagh (Newport) and Nathan James (Neath) sharing a win apiece also. In the end, Morgan had done enough to seal the overall victory over Williams and Tess Howell (Drefach Felindre).

In the other trophy categories, Wais Kuba (Cardiff) is still the favourite for the Rookie of the Year cup with Tess Howell a near certain winner of the Ladies Cup. Mike Holder (Llanycefn) is still leading the Masters Cup table but faces pressure from Andrew Cook, Tess Howell and Brian Newton (Llanybri).

Sam Joseph took the win in the Fastest Lap Challenge.

Attention now focuses onto Round 7 as West Wales Karting hosts the final round of the season. As the drop-rounds come into play we will know who will be crowned our 2018 winners and Champions.
