Lewis Thomas (Haverfordwest) returns to the Pembrokeshire Karting Championship to take an impressive win at the third round. The event marked not only the halfway point of the season, but also the first time the Championship raced at the indoor track of West Wales Karting.

No fewer than 20 of the 28 competitors in attendance claimed a victory in the heat stages of the event, with some not only taking their first win of the year, but also their maiden triumph in an organised competitive environment. The tight, twisty nature of the track forced drivers to be careful and plan their overtaking maneuvers, with some misjudging their moves and visiting the tyre wall.

With Lewis not only winning the final, he also set the quickest lap of the year so far, automatically placing him top of the Smith & Jones Electrical Fastest Lap Challenge leaderboard. Sam Joseph (Swansea) was denied a third successive event win by finishing a close second with newcomer Dave Slater (Haverfordwest) taking third place.  Carwyn Bowen (Efailwen) and Adam Jones (New Hedges) finished fourth and fifth.

Luck was against Daniel Thomas (Templeton) and Richard Francis (Cross Hands) who failed to gain enough points to race in the A-final, but finished first and second respectively in the B-Final. The result hurt Daniel's ambitions of closing the gap to Sam in the overall standings, whilst Richard saw his margin at the top of the Heavyweight standings increase. Ross Chell (Narberth) remains top of the Business Finance Wales Rookie of the Year standings, but is in danger of being caught by Carwyn Bowen.

The Championship returns to familiar territory for competitors as Carew Karting hosts Round 4 at 4pm on Saturday July 19th. Drivers are urged to let organisers know if they hope to attend to secure a place. New drivers can register at www.pembrokeshirekarting.co.uk

This Saturday (June 7th) will see the Pembrokeshire Karting Championship head indoors for Round 3. The recently rebranded and refurbished West Wales Karting will be joining the calendar this year to make the Championship a truly County based series.

Competitors and spectators will be treated to a FREE barbecue at the event, which begins at 4:00pm sharp.

The track offers drivers a technical challenge with a variety of hairpins, tight corners and sweeping bends. There is little room for error as any misjudgment will send the kart into the tyre barriers. Participants have had to contend with many challenges this year such as night time racing and wet weather. Organisers are sure that the new indoor track will catch many drivers out and will be a real opportunity to take home some big points.

Places are filling up fast for this event so drivers must let us know ASAP if they plan on coming so we can guarantee a place for them. For more details please visit www.pembrokeshirekarting.co.uk
