The Pembrokeshire Karting Championship is run and managed by Royston Badham, from Pembrokeshire. The PKC was created after Royston, a big motorsport fan graduated from university and realised that there was a gap in the market for a grassroots karting platform that bridged the gap between arrive and drive and more exclusive karting that required a small mortgage to become successful or even take part. In partnership with his local outdoor track at Carew Karting, Royston held the first PKC in 2009 aimed at drivers of all experience to come together to participate in an organised arrive and drive karting series.
Over the course of 10 years, the PKC grew in popularity attracting drivers from all over Wales. As more drivers took part, there was a keen emphasis to maintain that the PKC was all about giving everyone someone to race with and various sub-categories were added in addition to the main championship. Two big turning points in the PKC came when separate weight classes were introduced allowing drivers of similar weight to race exclusively against each other. The second turning point came when the PKC added the indoor circuit West Wales Karting to their calendar and began to forge a close partnership with the team which lead to the PKC becoming based fully at WWK from 2019 onwards.
It is our aim to introduce as many people as we can to the grassroot level of the sport for a very affordable price. By working closely with our partners at West Wales Karting, we ensure kart parity is so good that it truly is the driver that will determine who is the best in Wales!
